Smokes Hub

The second Shopify store, and the half of a product SEO pipeline that had to stop two sibling stores competing with each other.

What changed

The same job,
minus the manual part

Switch between how the work ran before, and how it runs now.

  • Product pages with the manufacturer description and nothing else
  • Two sibling stores chasing the same keywords and splitting their own traffic
  • Content pages that did not exist, for searches that did
The build

How it was
put together

In the order it was built, and why each part exists.

  1. 01

    One format, applied to everything

A fourteen module structure for every product page, so the output is consistent rather than whatever a model felt like writing that day.

  2. 02

    Keep the two stores apart

Rules that hold each store to its own terms. Two stores from the same owner bidding against each other in organic search is a self inflicted problem.

  3. 03

    A human before the publish

Everything lands in a review queue. 30+ products were reviewed and corrected by hand rather than trusted straight out of the pipeline.

  4. 04

    The pages that were missing

Eleven content pages, including five location pages carrying LocalBusiness JSON-LD.

Scale is not the hard part

Generating a thousand product descriptions is easy and mostly worthless. The work is in the format, the rules, and the queue that stops bad output reaching a customer.

Every page here went through a gate before it went live.

Two stores, one owner

Smokes Hub and its sibling store sell into the same market. Without a rule holding them apart, the pipeline would have produced two pages competing for the same search.

The anti duplication layer is the part that makes running both worth doing.
